About Me

Crowdsourcing: A Definition

  • I like to use two definitions for crowdsourcing:

The White Paper Version: Crowdsourcing is the act of taking a job traditionally performed by a designated agent (usually an employee) and outsourcing it to an undefined, generally large group of people in the form of an open call.

The Soundbyte Version: The application of Open Source principles to fields outside of software.

The Rise of Crowdsourcing

  • Read the original article about crowdsourcing, published in the June, 2006 issue of Wired Magazine.

re: The Cardinals - You are right people aren't in it for the money. They are in it because they love baseball. And perhaps -- they love the Cardinals - their team. Imagine now, the chance to help shape the team. When they go to games they won't just be cheering for their home team - they will be cheering for the team they helped to shape.

That's brand loyalty.

Also: Amanda is freak'n brilliant. I agree: There are some things the crowd can do better and faster than experts. There are some areas where experts still excel. Future experiments will have to continue to find the sweet spots for both.
